What Is Microdermabrasion?

Living in Florida, we know that the sun is great for our health and overall mood but not so great for our skin. Too much sun can lead to an array of skin problems, so you’ll need to protect your skin and take preventative measures to keep away sunspots and other forms of hyperpigmentation.

During the procedure, an esthetician will use a diamond-tipped wand to sand away the thicker outer layer of the skin. The machine will gently exfoliate dead cells and suction them up. Some side effects that may occur include mild tenderness, swelling and redness. These typically go away within a few hours and should not cause worry. It is important to keep your skin hydrated and use gentle skin products after the treatment. Your skin will also be more sensitive to the sun so make sure to wear sunscreen, which you should do every day regardless!

Like most things in life, you will have to work to keep up with your refreshing radiance. Your at-home skin care routine, environmental factors and plain old genetics will determine how long the results will last. There will be an immediate difference after the treatment, but over time that will fade. So make sure to keep up with your skin and maintain a regimen that is best for you.
