With microneedling, tens of thousands of micro-fine needles are painlessly inserted into the skin that has been numbed with a specially prepared cream. Microneedling (also medical needling) can treat scars, sagging skin, wrinkles, stretch marks, pigment disorders, and some types of hair loss. For best results, this medical needling treatment should be done in a series of several microneedlings. The effect has been scientifically researched and proven several times. We at DayDreams Lakeland, use the RejuvaPen microneedling device, which has been FDA approved to improve the appearance of facial acne scars in adults aged 22 years or older.

How does Microneedling Work?
Heading-Underline

Medical microneedling use the skin’s natural regeneration mechanisms. Inserting the microneedles stimulates the cells and stem cells to become active, the production of collagen and elastin, and the growth of the smallest blood vessels—an injury to the skin during microneedling triggers a healing and repair process. In the process, growth hormones are released, stem cells are activated, and new, tiny blood vessels can develop. Above all, however, the microneedling activates fibroblasts, which multiply, and ultimately collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid are produced. The injury is closed, and the tissue defect is healed. Microneedling uses this process. With microneedling, micro-fine needles made of surgical steel are used to create the finest canals with a depth of up to 2.5 mm, which close again after a short time.

Medical needling simulates a large-area injury to the tissue, and it reacts accordingly. Needling or microneedling to stimulate the skin to regenerate itself has existed since the 1930s. In the beginning, needle punches were used for microneedling, later the needles were attached to rollers, and the derma-roller (name of the first patented microneedling roller) was invented. The effect of medical needling in the treatment of wrinkles, the treatment of acne scars, burn scars, scars after injuries and operations, and on wrinkles, against stretch marks, and certain types of hair loss were soon proven in numerous scientific studies.

What is Microneedling Used for?
Heading-Underline
  • Skin freshening / rejuvenation
  • Wrinkle treatment
  • Therapy of surgical scars
  • Therapy of acne scars (works exceptionally well on this)
  • Used against stretch marks
  • Treatment of pigment spots / age spots
  • Hair loss treatment

Microneedling is a “gentle revolution” in aesthetic anti-aging because it effectively stimulates regeneration and reorganization instead of stressing the skin (most other skin resurfacing methods make it thinner).

Does Microneedling Hurt?

By applying specially prepared anesthetic cream beforehand, microneedling is hardly painful and requires a predictably low downtime. The skin can appear fresher and firmer through needling, the surface of the skin becomes more uniform. The terms medical needling (MN), collagen induction therapy (KIT or CIT) are sometimes used for microneedling. The results of microneedling are compared with those of lasers, but the skin is stimulated, and microneedling can be used on all areas of the body. The following are most commonly in demand for treatment:

  • Eye wrinkles
  • Forehead wrinkles
  • Frown lines in combination with neuromodulation (botulinum toxin A)
  • Acne scars
  • Laugh lines
  • Cheek wrinkles
  • Wrinkles in the neck, sagging skin on the neck
  • Wrinkles on the cleavage
  • Skin renewal on the back of the hand
  • Scalp in certain types of hair loss
