What is Broadband Light Treatment?

Heading Underline

Broadband Light Treatment, or BBL, is a non-invasive procedure that uses intense pulses of light to reduce the signs of aging and restore youthful, glowing skin. Despite its name BBL Laser Treatment, it is not a traditional laser treatment. Other laser treatments use a more focused light, while BBL uses light pulses. Also, regular laser treatment is a single wavelength, while BBL is a broad-spectrum filter that can be used to treat a variety of conditions.

Different Conditions BBL Laser Treatments Treat

Heading-Underline

BBL Laser Treatments by Sciton can drastically reduce the appearance of aging and sun damage. Some of the conditions it can treat are:

  • Dark Spots
  • Redness
  • Broken blood vessels (Spider veins)
  • Fine lines/Wrinkles
  • Dull skin
  • Freckles
  • Birthmarks
  • Rosacea

Broadband Light Therapy is not just for the face; it can be done on the neck, arms, hands, and chest.

How Does BBL Work?

Heading Underline

BBL laser treatment works by doing several passes over your skin with a BBL laser applicator. The pulsing light penetrates your skin and damages the pigment, tissue, or blood vessels. Then your body will begin to repair the damaged skin and reveal younger-looking skin.

Who is a Good Candidate for This Treatment?

Heading Underline

BBL laser treatment works best on lighter skin tones. Darker skin tones should avoid BBL. This is because darker skin tones will absorb too much light, and it can cause dark spots and hyperpigmentation. For this same reason, it is advised not to get this procedure done during the summer months as sun exposure tends to be higher. It is best to get this treatment done from October through January.

Preparing For Your BBL Laser Treatment

Heading-Underline

With Broadband Laser Treatment, there are some steps you must take weeks in advance. As mentioned before, your skin should not be tanned, which means you must try to avoid sunlight or tanning beds 4-6 weeks prior. Avoid waxing and chemical peels 1 week before, and don’t use any products that contain retinol salicylic acid or glycolic acid for 1 week before your procedure. Also, talk to your doctor about any medications you may be taking that may cause photosensitivity.

We Will Find the Best Treatment Plan for Your Skin

During your initial BBL consultation, a DayDreams licensed healthcare provider will assess your concerns and skin conditions to determine which areas we should be treating and how to prevent them in the future. Skin conditions and signs of aging can be caused by a multitude of reasons, such as

  • Sun exposure
  • Hormones
  • Smoking
  • Ultraviolet light
  • Climate
  • Harsh products

Do Broadband Light Treatment Hurt?

Heading Underline

BBL Laser treatment is not painless, but it is also not very painful. In fact, because of the broad spectrum of light that is applied, BBL is significantly less painful than traditional lasers. Clients have described the procedure as tiny rubber bands being snapped against your skin. A topical anesthetic will be applied to your skin, helping to ease any discomfort.

Do Broadband Light Treatment Hurt

BBL Laser Treatment is a Quick Procedure

Heading-Underline

BBL laser treatment is a quick in and out process. The whole procedure takes anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes with no downtime.

Recovery from BBL Laser Treatment

Heading Underline
Recovery from BBL Laser Treatment

BBL treatment is a non-invasive procedure, so there is little to no downtime. You will be able to resume wearing makeup and sunscreen that same day. However, your skin may feel slightly warm and look red, swollen, or sunburned. This is normal and will go away within a few hours but can last up to a few days. To help with the slight discomfort, you can apply a cold compress to the area for 10-20 minutes. Also, it is important to avoid things like

  • Exfoliants
  • Tropical acne treatments
  • Scented skincare products

Until your skin has had time to heal, after BBL laser treatment, it is suggested that you avoid anything that will make you sweat or become flushed. That means no exercise, hot temperatures, saunas, alcohol, or spicy food for 48 hours. If you have dark spots, they will become darker and come to the surface before they come off, normally taking 5-7 days. Do NOT pick or scrub the spots before they are ready.

Take care of your skin in between treatments

Heading Underline

BBL Treatments will make your skin look brighter, fuller, and more youthful, but you must care for your skin in between treatments.

  • Sunscreen: Make sure you are always using a broad-spectrum SPF of no less than 30, even on days when the sun isn’t out. SPF is not just a summer thing; you need to wear it during the winter months. Wearing a hat is another great way to keep your face from getting too much exposure to the sun.
  • Moisturizer: Moisturizing your face and body daily will help it stay hydrated. When skin is hydrated, it can boost collagen. Another great way to keep your skin hydrated is to have a humidifier on at night while you sleep.
  • A well-balanced diet: A healthy diet can help slow the aging process and strengthen the elasticity of your face. Try to eat a diet low in fats and processed carbohydrates and eat food rich in vitamin C and vitamin A, like orange and yellow fruits.
  • Water: Our bodies are made up of 70% water, so it should be no surprise that drinking more water will help our skin look its best. Men should drink 13 cups of water a day, and women should drink 9 cups a day. Getting your daily amount of water doesn’t have to come from drinking it. Many fruits and vegetables are mostly water, like apples, cucumbers, bananas, and iceberg lettuce.
  • Manage stress: When you use your facial muscles, they form a grove in your derma (the cells under the skin on your face). You may have heard of them referred to as stress lines. Try to find activities that will help you relax.
  • Going for walks
  • Exercising
  • Yoga
  • Meditation
