Latisse
Confidence is 10% Hard Work and 90% Eyelashes.
Latisse is used for the treatment of inadequate or insufficient growth of eyelashes. It is a solution for topical use that provides increased growth of lashes in length, thickness/abundance, and intensity of coloration/darkening. The drug’s action starts right after the start of treatment, but clinical studies show a significant difference in length, thickness, and darkening of the lashes following the 2nd month of treatment.
Latisse eyelash serum is actually a version of a glaucoma eye-drop medication called bimatoprost, which has been in use since the FDA approved it in 2001. During that period, eye doctors and their patients noticed longer, fuller eyelashes growing over time. In December 2008, the FDA approved Latisse specifically for eyelash growth. Generic versions of Latisse are also available.
Although the mechanisms behind Latisse aren’t completely understood, the drug has been on the market for more than 10 years with few incidents. It is safe and produces results. In fact, one study showed that after 16 weeks of use, participants saw:
- Eyelash length increased by 25%
- Thickness and fullness increased by 106%
- Eyelash darkness increased by 18%.
Note, though, that stopping the use of Latisse will cause your lashes to return to their original state.
How to use Latisse.
This medicine should be used exclusively on the skin of the upper eyelid, at the base of the lashes (where the lashes are in contact with the skin). The solution is provided in a ready-to-use format. Do not touch the tip of the bottle to your fingers or any other surface to avoid contamination of the bottle and solution. The usual dose is 1 drop for each eyelid, once a day (preferably at night), with an interval of approximately 24 hours between doses. The dose should not exceed a once-daily dose, as more frequent administration has been shown not to enhance eyelash growth.
Do not apply the solution to the eye or the lower eyelid. Only use the sterile applicators provided in the package to apply the solution.
Is Latisse right for me?
Latisse eyelash lengthener is safe for most people, but you should avoid it if you have uveitis or conjunctivitis, are at risk for macular edema, have severe allergies or skin infections of the upper eyelids, or are pregnant or nursing. Note that the active ingredient in Latisse lowers the pressure inside your eye. If you are already using pressure-lowering medications for ocular hypertension or glaucoma, tell your eye doctor before you try Latisse.
