Xeomin
Ageing is just another word for living.
Xeomin is a type A botulinum toxin approved to treat wrinkle lines between the eyebrows and forehead. The FDA has been approved to treat eye spasms and cervical dystonia and treat moderate to severe glabella or frown lines between the brows.
Like BOTOX, Xeomin can also be used for other wrinkle correction and cosmetic uses. The main difference between the products is that Botox has an inactive protein, while Xeomin has no additives. Xeomin is a purified form of neurotoxin; it is manufactured in such a way as to remove accessory proteins from the active ingredient. Foreign accessory proteins are not necessary for the medicine to work. Years of Botox injected with the associated proteins eventually lead to desensitization, so Botox after many years may not work as well.
Benefits and Functions.
- Smooth wrinkles appear between the eyebrows, around the eyes, on the forehead, or around the mouth.
- Blocks the nerve signal to the muscles, causing the muscle to relax and preventing further wrinkling.
- Short treatment time, fast recovery time, and visible results immediately.
- Less likely to cause allergic reactions due to lack of additives.
- Xeomin is often called “Pure Botox” due to the purity of the product itself.
How does Xeomin Cosmetic work?
Xeomin works by blocking nerve signals to muscles, causing muscles to relax and wrinkles to smooth out. The structural difference between Xeomin and other botulinum toxins (such as BOTOX and Dysport) is that Xeomin is considered “the naked protein.”
This is because it does not have the binding proteins found in BOTOX and Dysport. These binding proteins can cause the body to build up antibodies, and therefore, repeat BOTOX injections may become less and less effective. For this reason, Xeomin may be a better alternative to BOTOX and Dysport.
What to Expect During a Treatment
The treatment is quite fast; the actual injection process may take less than 10 minutes. The healthcare provider may numb the area first, although you can feel the needle. Again, the number of injections will vary depending on the size of the area.
Less is always better than more. Our health care providers will start small so as not to inject too much the first time. You should be able to continue your day normally after treatment. The key to success is a thorough professional research process and clear communication about the desired results. The full results of your treatment may take up to two weeks, and they usually last from three to five months, but that also varies with age, skin quality, and lifestyle.
What are the side effects?
Side effects are rare; however, the most common side effects of a Xeomin injection are:
- Eyelid ptosis (fall)
- Dry eyes
- Visual impairment
- Possible start of a cold
- Injection site pain
- Dry mouth
- Muscle weakness and neck pain.
